Biography

I’m an American expatriate living and working in Maastricht, The Netherlands. I served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps, hiked the Appalachian Trail, traveled around the world and completed a Bachelor’s in Political Science at Johnson State College in Vermont. My areas of expertise are history, religion and international relations. I’m currently working on a book that examines the origins of Western political authority.

I’m a freelance writer and news analyst capable of random acts of journalism. I believe that news is the “first, rough draft of history” and that news analysis is the second. I consider journalism to the civic duty of all citizens, to the best of their ability and in accordance with their expertise. I believe that governments have no implicit right to secrecy and that systems of information classification are, if not illegal, then unconscionable and adverse to civilized, participatory society. I am opposed to pop-news and the notion that news expires or is no longer valid for discussion or revisitation
